This replica of a 1858 Remington Belt Model revolver is .36 caliber, the so-called Navy caliber. This used revolver has a few marks from handling and a visible marks on the on cylinder from the latch. The walnut grips have a smooth nice factory varnish. The front sight is a tall post. The side flats of the barrel are marked BLACK POWDER ONLY Cal .36 on the left and FAP F..LLIPIETA - MADE IN ITALY on the right. The walnut grips are factory finished with a deep red satin varnish, mounted with a blued steel screw, through brass escutcheons. The traditional brass triggerguard has aged to a mellow patina. The Remington trigger is wide and comfortable. The rigid steel frame of the 1858 Remington made it highly prized by its users.
This revolver includes:
A black leather western style open top holster
The original blued steel Italian nipples are too small to properly fit American No. 11 percussion caps. We recommend replacing the nipples with our No. PIR-LI best 6-. 75mm thread hardened steel, which are designed to accept CCI No. 11 caps. The blued cylinder has the Remington safety notches cut between each nipple recess. Pull the hammer to half-cock, turn the cylinder to align the safety notch with the hammer nose, and set the hammer into the notch. You can safely carry this revolver with all six chambers loaded, if you rest the hammer in a safety notch.
The factory recommends our #BALL-375 pure lead .375" round ball, but many shooters prefer the slightly larger #BALL-380-X ..380" hand cast round ball, which provides better compression, noticeably more power, and best accuracy. However, an oversize ball tends to shear lead at each chamber mouth, changing the size and bullet weight, a problem. This revolver has slightly chamfered chamber mouths. If your revolver shaves lead, slightly polish each chamber mouth with fine emery and a marble, until the ball seats fully, compressing the lead instead of shearing it.
